The advice he gave was spot on
I was in a situation where dealing with NIE was problematic and their solution was prohibitively expensive. I had set up a small solar array to cover the running of a caravan and lighting whilst building a new house and it worked well.
Frankly, I was so impressed and started to think on a bigger scale for the entire house. Having purchased Victron components, I rang them to ask a few questions regarding a higher capacity system and it was them who suggested that I should contact Steven Byrne.
Most people will let you down so I was a little apprehensive but very soon found that I was speaking with someone who could answer every question, no bias and no sales pitch, just straight forward advice, basic stuff right through to the technical specification and component choice.
The advice he gave was spot on and for me having someone to bounce ideas off, be it hardware or the system settings, was invaluable. Yes, I have a technical background but was not familiar with the bigger picture of going off grid and solar. It is the ongoing contact that is of the most value. Going off grid is a big learning curve and to a point, trial and error. There are so many settings available to tune the system and some of those parameters are not that straight forward.
I’ve been living in this house now for about a year and the system is great. I know I need a few more panels, I always knew that was the case, and Steven will be there to specify and guide the installation when I move a massive pile of rock out of the way! I am very grateful for his advice and continual support.
Steve is one of the best in the business
His genuine passion for sustainable living played a big part in our decision to go with him
We first got to know Steve through the off-grid and permaculture community here in Ireland, and he quickly became a trusted source of knowledge and guidance, even before we considered buying anything. That longstanding support and his genuine passion for sustainable living played a big part in our decision to go with him when it came time to install solar panels on our off-grid home.
From that very first visit, it had felt more like reconnecting with an old friend than hiring a contractor. Steve brought a wealth of experience, but also a calm, grounded presence that made the whole process feel easy and collaborative. The installation was smooth and professional, and the follow-up support has only confirmed that we made the right call. He’s continued to be incredibly helpful, answering questions and offering advice long after the job was done.
As a customer, I can’t recommend Steve highly enough… he is the kind of person you want in your corner when building an off-grid life.
