As a customer myself, I know that the worst thing is to order something and then….nothing. The item doesn’t show up, or there’s no explanation from the company or the couriers, and its incredibly frustrating. Right now, delivery networks everywhere are suffering a number of problems, and so I wanted to explain to you, our customers what those issues are and how they are impacting our business.
Firstly, Brexit. A lot of goods coming into Northern Ireland and Ireland come via GB in some way. The sheer amount of uncertainty about what paperwork, what regulations, what VAT regime etc to follow, has led to some huge logisitcs problems. Right now, anything coming to the UK or Ireland from Victron in the Netherlands on a pallet is stuck in warehouses because of a backlog of customs paperwork, made worse by staff shortages due to Covid.
So goods coming into us are being delayed depending on whether they are pallet based, or courier based, and even which company is moving them.
The second issue is then with shipping goods out. There are random shortages of drivers because of Covid, and delays because of parcel volumes. Apparently they are seeing Christmas volumes but all the time. Then, even though it may not be necessary, we are being forced to complete complex customs declarations for each delivery, regardless of where it is going. This all adds to the time it takes to get orders out to you at the moment.
Believe me we are trying our hardest to make sure that your orders arrive as fast as possible, but I think it is important to be honest with our customers and say that there is a high chance of delays at the moment and that we cannot guarantee delivery times of less than a week with any certainty. I believe things will become easier over the coming months but for now I wanted to make the situation clear.
Thank you for your understanding. I hope you’re all safe and well.
